unyxmaedi:

To those of you who are afraid to draw because you think you suck and will never make it, I’m here to say that you can make it. If you want to be able to draw, you already are able to draw. The only thing you need to do is pick up a pencil and scribble. Sure you might not be happy with what you make at first, but neither was I. When I was first drawing these things exactly 13 months ago, I never believed that I would be able to make drawings I was satisfied with, let alone make drawings I was proud of. Another year of your life is going to pass by regardless of your age, gender, background, and ‘natural talent’, so why not spend that year trying to develop a skill you’re interested in? You don’t need 10,000 hours to develop a skill, (hell, I’ve only been drawing seriously for 4 months), all you need is determination, a positive attitude to carry you through, and a willingness to put yourself out there and ask for help.

To those of you who have already started drawing, I wish the best for you and encourage you to keep it up. You are your tomorrow’s success story. At times, it may seem like you’re drawing in a very long and very dark tunnel without a light at the end, but if you keep prodding along, you might find that the thing you’ve been hoping for was right in your face the entire time.

While I can’t claim that I’m in a position of authority to motivate people to draw, I can say that my lack of authority is exactly why you should draw. Anyone can learn to draw and continue to get better, no matter the commitments and emotions that pull at you. In the end, all I ask of you is to pick up that pencil and draw; not only am I vying for you, but everyone else on this journey to better art is vying for you as well.
