“Your family bonds have dissolved in discussions over the correct article for nutella. At dawn, you lay in a corner of your room whispering “Der… die… das…” to yourself. There is no answer.”  - German meme gothic, from this post

As a language with not only two, but three different articles, deciding on one for Nutella is not all that easy…! Okay, the third article, the masculine one (der) isn’t used by anyone for Nutella, but still.

I remember talking with my friend from North Germany and she was a little appalled by my “Rheinländisch”, and she ended up saying something like “It’s okay, I can accept that you say it like this. As long as you don’t say “die Nutella.”“ …Weeeeelll. :y
It turned into an actual debate on why it should be die/das rather than the other. And damn it, it should be die because it’s die Nussnougat-creme!
We take our articles very seriously!

(Do other languages have this issue or a similar one too?)
